Choosing a Safe Installation Expert

When deciding where to put a home safe the first very important step is to look into experienced home safe installers near you.

Choosing a security specialist approved by the Master Locksmiths Association ensures they will be:

  • DBS Checked
  • Qualified

You can search for local safes installers in your area on the Master Locksmiths Association website. It is very important to choose a safes installation specialist with care.

Where To Put a Safe in Your House?

Whether you are looking for jewellery or cash safes installation, large or compact safes, business or home safes the location  and method of installation needs to be carefully considered.

The best place to install a safe is either;

  • Bolted to a concrete floor
  • Bolted to an External Wall
  • Ideally bolted to both a concrete floor and an external wall!

Floor Bolted Safe

Bolting a safe to a concrete floor is ideal. However where this is not possible the safe could be fitted to a wooden joist in the floor.

Alternatives to Bolting a Safe to the Floor

Where bolting the safe does not get a strong enough fixing there are alternatives that may be considered for fixing to a floor or wall.

  • Very strong adhesive – not ideal but may be used as a last resort.
  • Chemical fixings

Home Wall Safe

A wall mounted safe should ideally be bolted to an external wall.

This isn’t always possible or suitable. You may require a safe in the wall elsewhere in the house. This requires careful consideration when it comes to deciding where exactly to place it and how to install it.

There have been occasions where we have installed safes to an internal wall. Sometimes we are asked for a hidden wall safe.

The image below is an example of a £10k cash rated safe which we installed in North London inside a wardrobe. It weighed more than 45 kg so installation had to be considered with great care with enough support for it at the bottom which can’t be seen in this image.

On this occasion we cut an aperture in the wardrobe to accommodate the safe and bolted it to the internal wall. If not done correctly it can cause problems with the surrounding area and a less than secure result.

Customers have asked on occasions about wall safes between studs. Wall safes that are sunken into a wall between 2 stud walls are not as common in the UK as they are in the US. This is not something that would tend to be added to a property. It is something that would need to be done as part of the building process. If you are looking for a really well hidden home safe it is a case of having your property surveyed by an expert who will be able to tell you the most suitable option for your particular property. It requires considerable creative thinking. Wall safes and under floor safes should be planned during the early stages of a building project.

It is so important that any of these options are planned and executed with care and consideration and by an expert. It is important to choose a qualified professional locksmith to make these decisions and to carry out the work. This is not a job for an amateur.
