The benefit of eurograde safes is that they are designed to be burglary and theft resistant. A correctly installed eurograde safe is the best way to secure cash and valuables in homes and commercial properties.

What Are Safe Grades?

Safe grades determine the cash rating and valuables rating of a safe. For example, the lowest grade 0 safe provides a £6000 cash rating and £60,000 valuables rating and the highest grade 7 safe provides £250,000 cash rating and £2500,000 valuables rating. A safes grade indicates how much the eurograde safe limits access and indicates the level of resistance to a range of physical attacks.

What is the Best Grade Safe?

The safe grade required is dependent on the contents that need to be secured. There are 8 grades to choose from Grade 0 – Grade 7. The higher the grade the higher the cash and valuables rating.

What is Eurograde?

Eurograde safes are high security safes that have been tested to European standards. Eurogrades 1-7 provide increasing levels of security for cash and valuables. Eurograded safes are subjected to extensive testing and awarded with EN1143 certification. Safes that have been granted EN1143 certification carry a badge to confirm the status.

Eurograde Safe Testing

Tests are carried out by a national testing agency. The resistance level is determined by the length of time it takes to gain entry to the safe using a range of methods. Safes are awarded an RU (resistance units) rating which determines the grade number of the particular safe.

Fire resistance isn’t a requirement for gaining an EN1143 rating however, some safes are tested for fire resistance and classed as fire resistant at 175 degrees for either 30, 60 or 90 minutes. If you need a fire resistant Eurograde safe you will need to specifically request this feature from the safe supplier as it is not a given for all Eurograde safes.

AIS Approved Safes

Always look for the AIS logo, when buying a eurograde safe, which gives assurance that the safe has been tested in an approved testing house. The AIS is The Association of Insurance Surveyors and has been combating recent concerns in the UK about appropriate safe testing standards and practices.
